The 6000 Series from Philips Norelco is a line of electric shavers for men with triple blade heads that consistently earns top marks from online reviews. We recently put the entry-level model, the Philips Norelco Shaver 6100 Wet & Dry Electric Shaver to the test to see how it performs and to take a close look at its features. Read on for our full Norelco 6100 review.
The Basics/In the Box
The Philips Norelco Shaver 6100 Wet & Dry Electric Shaver has a very attractive build that instantly sets it apart from some of the bargain models from Norelco like the Norelco 2100. The shaver comes with a protective cap, a cleaning brush and a charging stand. The recommended selling price is $99.99, but we found it being sold on Amazon. The price point is low compared to other wet and dry shavers with rotary head designs.
The shaver has a sleek blue handle with an ergonomic shape that the contours of your hand can easily conform to. The shaver doesn’t have any features to cut down on the risk of slipping when you’re wet shaving like a thumb grip or an anti-slip texture on its sides. Norelco claims there is a no slip grip, but we really didn’t find any evidence of this in the design. Still, this didn’t prove to be too much of a problem for us, but it does bear noting that you should dry your hands well after you apply your lather.
Operation and Ease of Use
When it came time to test the shaver for the performance portion of our Norelco 6100 review, we were impressed with how the shaver handles. The model features GyroFlex 2D technology, meaning that the head pivots to complement facial contours. The pivoting action of the head speeds up shave time and makes it easy to get into the area under the nose. Each of the three blades has a DualPrecision design with Super Lift & Cut action that makes it possible to remove even very short facial hairs.
Results After Shaving
During testing for our Norelco 6100 review, we found that the shaver handled impressively both with wet and dry shaving. Because the shaver cuts hair all the way into the follicle, the Philips Norelco Shaver 6100 Wet & Dry Electric Shaver gives a very smooth shave that rivals a manual razor. We found that wet shaving produced better results for a thick beard, but the model is very efficient when you’re shaving ordinary growth to keep the face stubble free.
Sensitive Skin?
The Philips Norelco Shaver 6100 Wet & Dry Electric Shaver features a SkinGlide surface that reduces friction to protect sensitive skin. This greatly reduces the risk of post-shaving irritation. Like the Norelco 3500, this shaver could cause ingrown hairs because it slices the hair below the skin’s surface. You can combat this by using a good pore refining after shave balm or lotion immediately after you’ve finished using the shaver. When the other features of the shaver discussed in this Norelco 6100 review are considered, we don’t find the risk of ingrown hairs to impact the quality or value of the model.
Battery Life
One of the only things about the Philips Norelco Shaver 6100 Wet & Dry Electric Shaver that is disappointing is that it only provides 40 minutes of continuous shaving on a single charge. This is less than a lot of other comparable rotary shavers; however, the fact that you can fully charge the shaver in just 1 hour offsets the short battery life. The shaver also has a 3-minute quick charge that will let you get enough power for a single shave fast. There is also a low battery indicator light to help make sure that you don’t forget to recharge.
Cleaning and Care
Because the shaver is completely waterproof, the Philips Norelco Shaver 6100 Wet & Dry Electric Shaver is rinse-able for easy cleaning. There is also a hair capture chamber that helps to keep things tidy, and you get a cleaning brush that’s great for spot cleaning. The charging stand is a nice addition because it allows you to store the shaver upright off of counter tops to ensure good hygiene. Maintaining the Norelco 6100 is simple. The entire head unit needs to be replaced just one time per year. The shaver does not need to be lubricated. We found replacement parts easily online.
Special Features
The Philips Norelco Shaver 6100 Wet & Dry Electric Shaver has a pop-up trimmer that we found to be efficient at trimming mustaches and sideburns. It is easy to lift when you need it. For men who travel, the Norelco 6100 is a good choice because it features dual voltage technology that allows it to be used without a voltage adapter abroad. The safety cap also protects the shaver for traveling. There is also a travel lock on the device to keep it from powering on in your luggage.
Final Thoughts
All in all, we were pleased with the performance and the features of the Philips Norelco Shaver 6100 Wet & Dry Electric Shaver. Based on our experiences testing for the Norelco 6100 review, we can recommend the shaver for men who want to get the flexibility of wet and dry shaving with a rotary shaver but still want a more economical model.
